Townsville Initiative to Connect Employers with Jobseekers

Leading employment service provider, Workways Australia, is inviting Townsville employers to meet jobseekers matched to the needs of their workforce.

The Workways ‘Employer Meet and Greet’ is an initiative developed by Workways employees, Vickie Halvorsen and Nikki Cheffins who saw it as a great opportunity to showcase the vast range of skills of local jobseekers, in a social setting where employers have more time to get to know the candidates.

“The pressure of interviews and the time available to showcase a person’s skills, often means the employer doesn’t get the opportunity to explore what it is they need in an employee, both in terms of their skillset and cultural fit.” Said Vickie.

“By getting employers and job seekers together over a social BBQ, we have a unique recruitment setting where the real benefits of a candidate can be explored.”

The ‘Employer Meet and Greet’ day will be held on Wednesday 26th August from 3.30pm at the Workways office, and is directed at businesses seeking staff with skills in hospitality, general labouring, cleaning, logistics / warehousing or truck driving.

“We are working with a range of job seekers who have experience and a diversity of skillsets, and importantly, are willing and able to work. We have worked with our candidates to ensure they have documented their certifications, sought training where necessary and are entirely job ready” Said Vickie

“There are a range of supports we can provide to employers in addition to recruitment including wage subsidies and Back to Work funding.”

“This is a service that is completely free for local employers. It is our job to find you the right candidates.” Added Vickie.

Job seeker, Shauna Coolwell is eagerly anticipating the event, and welcomes the opportunity to meet with prospective employers. “I’ve been unemployed for the past ten years while I have been studying a Diploma of Hospitality and raising my family.”

“This is a good event and I am hopeful I can secure a job as a result.” Said Shauna.

Workways Australia is a National organisation providing employment services and support across a range of programs, including disability employment services and youth employment.

“This is the beginning of a range of industry specific meet and greet events which we hope will support both small business and our local job seekers.” Said Vickie.

“This is a win-win for the Townsville community.”
